Ban on Products with Microbeads Signed into Law in New Jersey

Starting in 2018, the manufacture of personal care products containing microbeads will be prohibited in New Jersey. The prohibition of the sale of such products will follow in the years after.

The plastic pellets found in things like exfoliating washes and toothpaste can’t be filtered out by wastewater treatment systems and can pose environmental hazards, according to legislative documents with the bill.
