Show your customers you care. Using reusable bags in your store or business, or offering them as promotional items to customers, makes a statement about your organization and about your stewardship of the environment. The typical plastic bags used by most grocery stores and other retailers may be inexpensive to produce, but their cost to the environment can be catastrophic. After the bags have served their purpose to bring their products home, most people simply toss them in the garbage (where they soon wind up in landfills or dumped in the ocean), or they discarded of them improperly, littering the landscape and highways.

A study by the Advertising Specialty Institute (ASI)in 2016 revealed that most people who receive a quality promotional item (and a re-usable shopping bag or tote fits that category since 31% of S consumers report they possess a promotional bag from a store they have patronized) will typically keep and use that item for an average of 8 months! Another statistic, cited by www.sageworld.com, revealed that 6 out of 10 consumers report they keep promotional products for up to two years, and rather than throw them out when they are done with them, a further 63% of those consumers say they give away the promotional products to others when they no longer need them. That’s potentially a lot of plastic bags NOT going into landfills or littering our streets.
Turn customers into brand ambassadors. Reusable shopping bags and tote bags tend to be very popular. They can be used by practically anyone and have lots of uses in the home and office. An earlier study by ASI in 2014 found that reusable bags were the third most popular promotional item, and that means 34% of US consumers owned or used bags with a company’s logo. What this means is that when people get hold of a promotional bag, they tend to hold onto it and take it with them—exposing others to your brand over a long period of time, raising awareness. Branded bags, says the ASI, generate an average of 5,700 impressions throughout their lifetime, or roughly 1,000 impressions for every $1 spent to imprint them.
